UPDATE: Sepulveda Pass traffic alert canceled

Long-time community activist Irene Sandler reports:”The Sepulveda Pass Debris Basin/Fence/ K-rail Project, due to begin today has been postponed until summer 2009…Because of the community uproar and the good work of our active
citizens, aided by CD 11 and CD 5 in chasing this down, the project is
postponed.”  See earlier story below.

When you quote Irene saying that the angry citizens were “aided by CD11 and CD5,” do you mean by people in those Council offices? You might want to give credit where it’s due for once — the field deputies of CD5 and I’m sure 11 spend a lot of time responding to constituent concerns, attending NC and HOA meetings, and interacting with city agencies. This sounds like a case where DOT didn’t inform the council districts of its plans, which wouldn’t be the first time.
You might say “that’s just their job,” so why bother to ever give them any praise, but sometimes that works better than one-sided criticism — which they have to hear in person and via email and phone often enough. While constituents feel that airing their angry views about traffic and development or taxes, what have you, is their right — and I’ve done the same over the years — listening to often unfair comments about themselves and their bosses can be hard to take. Many are paid less than $40,000. And NO I don’t work for anyone at City Hall. (Nor, Walter Moore, do those who think you’re just a childish, petulant amateur and tell you so. I can’t imagine you taking 1/100th of the criticism you dish out.)

Well, lookie here. It’s a lowly staffer. Put out a little honey and they come abuzzin’. Thez starving for attention. Good booooooy, Good boooooy. Now, sit… stay.

9:12 sounds like a truly misanthropic person, the kind who lashes out at anyone they think they can lash out at — anyone stuck in a customer service job dealing with people like them, and the dreaded “staffer.” Yes, anyone who doesn’t need to vent their inner insecurities on someone else is a “lowly staffer” this misanthrope taunts like a dog, just like there’s one person, a “third floor spinner,” who tells it to Moore like it is. If you’ve ever wondered why you don’t get better response to your demands, read your own words.

So does this mean that DOT and the council offices agree that there is no longer any danger of debris falling onto Sepulveda from the worksite a couple hundred feet above? Was there ever any danger of this happening? I’m glad no one is going to be inconvenienced by the debris basin, but there are some unanswered questions here!
