Bruno, the LA Watchdog: Antonio’s ‘Chief’ Grief

Bruno is definitely going to miss Bill Bratton.  He was a man after my own heart: tough
with hardened criminals, dumb cops and especially the less-hardened crooks on
the City Council.

And I loved his scowl, second only to Laura Chick’s.Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for bruno1watch.jpg

But I’m not going to miss him half as much as our
mayor.  No one covered Antonio’s
butt better, or made it look better, than Bill Bratton.  Without those crime stats and Bratton
starring in his political ads, Zuma Dogg might be mayor today.

So where does Antonio find a replacement to fill Bratton’s
very loyal, spit-shined shoes?

A dog’s best friend is his man so my advice to the mayor is to hire somebody he knows as a good friend, even if they’re not cops.

For example, not only does his pal Keith Brackpool raise a ton of
cash for Antonio, he also takes him on neat fishing trips to places like
Iceland.  I’m not sure he’s an
American citizen, and that could be a problem point.

Ari Swiller is also a good pal and raises lots
of political money, and he has the advantages of being tall and Bruno’s pretty sure he’s
a citizen.

Of course, both of them are more likely to wind up being targets of investigation than the guys doing the investigating.

Then, there’s the problem of the cops themselves. If the mayor wants the Police Protective League to applaud his
selection, there’s probably no better choice than labor boss Maria Elena Durazo
- a very, very old friend. She
could definitely put Brackpool and Swiller in their place — at the same time –
and scare most criminals into leaving town.  Durazo, however, has never been to Iceland.

So that leaves his newest best friend and current TV anchor squeeze, the former beauty queen
Lu Parker but that old grump
Bernie Parks would jump all over her.

This may be too inside the kennel for this dog’s audience, but Bruno’s
nominee is Robin Kramer, the mayor
s chief of staff.  She doesn’t get out much, which is probably why you don’t
recognize her name, but she’s been around City Hall for decades – she was once
Dick Riordan’s chief of staff, too – and has a reputation as a “Jewish mother.” Surely, the LAPD has never had a Jewish mother in charge during its long history.

Given the fact that lots of people – insiders, that is -
believe Antonio is the Number One target of our new City Attorney and his buddy
the District Attorney, it’s a very important appointment for Antonio.  He may need a friend in uniform who
carries a gun.

Woof!

Word is the PPL police union with the goons like Paul Weber are putting in their bids quickly. This will be payback to Antonio who they have been fighting with for the last 4 months on the rank and file budget. The PPL bought Trutanich for $750,000, bought most city council members more recently Paul Koretz and lobbied to get Mrs. Doubtfire Greig Smith who hated Bratton on a prime spot Public Safety Committee. Zine is also bought and paid for by officers due money and will no doubt have his say. This time around though THE PEOPLE CAN SPEAK OUT LOUD AND CLEAR. Don’t let this be a MAYOR DECISION. NO ONE FROM THE OUTSIDE

I was disappointed in Koretz piping up to support Smith on the movie cop uniform issue against the Chief, saying if it means driving film production out of town he was for taking a “middle road.” He’s always taking a “middle road,” afraid to make a decision that will offend anyone, but this is a smokescreen for those like Smith who are bought by the PPL: movie companies stay or go because of tax incentives and significant financial issues. Only location manages and low-level production managers AND the retired cops themselves get worked up about the uniform issue. It’s nonsense.
When Koretz does speak up strongly, it’s something that comes out either silly or badly like saying he has “a no kill policy” as a reason for opposing cuts to the fire dept. As though the other councilmembers are FOR killing people. I even see dumbo Jan Perry openly raising her eyebrows when she’s presiding and Koretz speaks. This is what happens when homeowner groups have way too much power: no real leaders, just those whose fingers are the wettest from holding up to the wind. Vahedi would have been even worse, totally beholden to the old NIMBY crowd, the same people who are the base of Trutanich’s CD5 crowd.
We’re seeing something similar in CD2: except for Benson who speaks for the niche of S-T, everyone is afraid to say anything other than the most vanilla remarks. Have any of them been bought by the PPL yet?

Bruno, you’re admitting “Antonio is the number one target of the new city atty and his friend the DA Steve Cooley?”
That they really did run just for revenge and vendettas, as Trutanich’s righthand man David Berger has openly said all along? But the dumb liberal media believed it was nonsense because Trutanich had “fancy speeches and soundbites” about turning toxic polluters and baby seal killers into “born again environmentalists and animal activists” (just ahead of jail time and huge fines), and was going to turn gangbangers likewise into evangelists and childcare workers if only he can create that 200-man private, secret police force to police the police (bye-bye, Bratton!) and “the vermin of city hall,” you know his bosses.
Bruno, don’t tell Ron Kaye you said any of this because he was a huge, really pig part of spinning that Nooch Pooch into an overnight miracle, a man more saintly than Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul but tougher than John Wayne and Maria Elena Durazo combined~ we wouldn’t want Ron’s delusions to be shattered, now!

Jack Weiss, your evil bitterness is showing, again. Why don’t you give your envy, enmity, and Trutanich-hating a rest.

10:19, you can flatter yourselves that Jack Weiss is worried about what goes on in this blog, let alone spends his time blogging away here. Your attitude is clearly, “he lied and deceived his way into the office, now let him alone to continue his McCarthyist witchhunts and egomanical vendettas in secret, as he sees fit!” You people are such hypocrites lacking any self- awareness, you sound like Zuma Dogg on the earlier thread.

  7. Jack says:

Wake the F**** UP people. Paul Koretz, Zine, Smith, Trutanich all bought and paid for with cop money. Koretz is so naive he’s taking his cues from Weber. Why do you think he got on the public safety committee??? Back room dealings. The PPL does everything corrupt and back door. PPL goons like Paul Weber now will go after his choice for Chief. Watch them to come out with Mark Perez of professional standards (great guy) or Deputy Chief Mike Moore from Valley who has done great work out there.Watch the goons at LA LEY (Latino cop org.) to push for DP Diaz who just wants everything Latino and is not mainstream.

  8. El Quixotian says:

I was just amused that Brackpool is bubbling up in the background…gee Bruno, is he trying to resurrect Cadiz to bring back now that Owens Valley is recovering? The same guy who earlier ran the failed venture to grow jojoba plants in the Arizona desert? One of the guys whose association with Gray Davis presaged his wilt in the public eye?
One can only hope that his midas touch should extend to Antonio.
