Jack Weiss vs. Ron Kaye on Channel 4

"The Filter with Fred Roggin" is being broadcast for the first time on Channel 4 today at 11:30 a.m. (after a six-month test on digital cable) and as luck would have it Jack Weiss and I wound up as facing off as competing commentators in the opening segment.

The fast-paced, innovative news show is broadcast live at 7:30 p.m. on NBC's digital Channel 225 Monday-Thursday and for now is being re-broadcast the following morning on Channel 4.

I thought you might be amused to how the man I called "Public Enemy No. 1" during the City Attorney's race (imagine what he's called me) and I performed.

Ron, you totally rock. I'm thrilled to see Fred Roggin doing something besides goofy sports stories.

This format smacks of so-called new stations that I avoid like the plague, but it is about local issues which is great. If it gets more people up to speed on what the heck is really happening in Los Angeles, then it's great!

The Jack Weiss thing scared me though. I hate it when people come back from the dead to haunt you.

;-)

Saw this show for the first time and also the first time, I saw Jack with a smile. All he had were scowls full of his self-importance when he was a Councilmember. Worse, he would yawn all the way thru your presentation at PLUM. Downfall and humility does wonders. And why can't he find a job as a Federal Prosecutor, a role he reminds you of all the time.

What the hell is digital channel 225? Hey, Ron, not everybody is on the same cable system that you use - give us a name of the broadcaster, not the channel number that your cable system uses and then you didn't bother to identify the cable company! DUH! That's the type of mentality that we face with the members of the City Council. Let's see, what can we do today - I know let's get into declawing cats or requiring liquor stores to publish their lottery winning ticket percentages or whatever bit of trivia we can waste our time with instead of addressing the problems with LA that we, the members of the City Council, have caused - I know - let's establish a special task force to check on lawn watering after 8:30am on Tuesdays - we can require 911 operators to take these calls just as seriously as medical emergencies - but wait, they just transfered another 20 LAPD officers to the Port to patrol the Harbor so we can't check on lawn watering in Janice's area - maybe we ought to check on water used for horses in Sylmar - we forget to mandate the hours for that use - oh hell, it's 3:30 time to call it a day - get staff to write something up and we'll put it on the agenda for the next "special" meeting.... I think I'll run for..... no, I better get a commission appointment - that pays better, part-time attending meetings, no campaigning, no accountability (oh, I love that!) - where's my Sacramento telephone listing - help, I need a job next year.....
