Loyalty Counts to Bill Bratton: Just Ask Jack Weiss and Michael Berkow

This one calls for a drum roll or two.

Jack Weiss, the ex-Councilman drummed out of office for doing such a poor job, and former Deputy LAPD Chief Michael Berkow, drummed out of town for his philandering ways, have landed top jobs running the Los Angeles offices of former Chief Bill Bratton’s new global security firm.

Good ol’ Bill Bratton, he knows how to look after his boys.

The Times has the press realease, uh story.

“I got to see Jack in a role in which he was very supportive of the goals of the department. He drove the DNA issue. He knows how to dig down, get information, get results,” Bratton said.

“Jack has a very big Rolodex and, let’s face it, I need somebody who can get out of the gate very quickly, get through the door and show people what ARI can do.”

Weiss, who faced a recall effort in his CD5 seat and lost the City Attorney’s race, was equally effusive, about running the LA office of Altegrity Risk International, the firm Bratton heads that opens for business on Monday.

Berkow, who was brought into the LAPD to handle internal affairs, got into trouible with affairs of his own after he threw a mattress into his office and took up residency where he worked. t cost the city $1 million to settle one female officer’s lawsuit. Berkow quit as chief in Savannah, Ga., shortly before Bratton announced he was leaving the LAPD.

He will be based in Los Angeles and head Altegrity
Security Consulting
, another firm formed by the merger of two large security firms.

The parent company is run by Michael Cherkasky, who was head of the Kroll Group which was one of the merger companies and was the federal court monitor for the LAPD.

Small world, isn’t it…and funny.

My gosh, what a find (figgured the LA Slimes got the press release). Cronyism at it’s best. Who woulda thunk that Villaraigosa’s poster boy Bratton would be the perpetrator.
It’s definitely not “funny HA HA”.

If they can be invested in, go short.
But, if it means Jack moves to NY, YEA….. 7 years too late……….

I thought he was some famous Fed Attorney, as claimed during his election stump who’d get his great job back. Turned out to be just another lazy, lame SOB, LA politician.

What a hilariously misanthropic, bitter bunch of comments, as to be expected on this blog!

Disgusting! I am curious to see where Antonio will land to support his life style.I`m sure the deal(s) has been struck.

We`ll be watching who is in this “very big Rolodex”. Antonio`s enablers ?

As LAPD chief, Bratton did his job well. The guy turned around the LAPD’s rep from that whole Rampart mess and actually made the occupation reputable again. Then he quit when he realized Tony V’s refusal to back the PD threatened to undo all the progress he made as chief
Since Ron can’t criticize Bratton’s job performance, he’s gotta act like paparazzi and post stupid shit like this. Even if LA had a mayor that knew how to lead and a city council that was actually competent, Ron would still be camping out in their backyards, trying to find more stuff to bitch about

8:46PM, indifferent asses like you have tolerated Antonio`s and the Council`s, Weiss was part of this clique, incompetence, deception and outright disregard for the well being of Los Angelenos. Thank God, there are a few like Ron, who are willing to raise their voice, take time and spend money to educate us of the ills of this City. Keep it up Ron!

Mulholland Terrace over at Griffith Park Wayist has it right – we’ve now got to rely on Bratton and Weiss to keep the city safe on their own dime while Antonio and Trutanich still have their jobs on OUR payroll. “What a city.”

Thanks Ron for posting this. I was one of those Bratton supporters until the shit starting hitting the fan and everyone found out the Police Chief selection was fixed. The corrupt Charlie “Farmer John” Beck wasn’t even a finalist but he gets the job over more qualified and others who had INTEGRITY. Bratton is showing what a slime ball, corrupt idiot he is. The truth now comes to Los Angeles where he wanted to keep ties. When is Trutanich coming out with his investigative report on the ties of Bratton and AEG and who approved the $1.4 mil overtime. It doesn’t matter how good a job Bratton did with LAPD. His true colors of a sleazy, no class, no morals man has come to light for everyone to see.

Talk about corruption why isn’t the Mayor getting rid of some of the 18 Deputy Mayor’s making over $120,000?
“”The spreadsheet did not list any reductions to the staff of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa or the City Council. But it did show staff reductions in 33 departments, including a cut of 7% in both the planning and parks agencies”"

9:10pm’s comment “Mulholland Terrace over at Griffith Park Wayist has it right” is typical of the misinformed koolaide drinkers who still think they can fool us into believing Jackass Weiss was a good choice for Los Angeles City Attorney.
Take a look at the report at Los Angeles Dragnet where it appears that Bratton’s screwed up in not doing a background check on Weiss. Doesn’t look too good for a security firm to hire a guy who appears to be in violation of State Bar Rule 2.2 and 2.3 which requires a member of the Bar to maintain accurate records of his contact details and to update any changes within 30 days. Weiss is still using his “Councilmember for CD5″ City Hall address, phone, fax and e-mail address 6 months after being booted out of office.
I can’t wait for the Weiss/Bratton response; “Jack didn’t know,” or “It’s a minor rule,” or “I tried to comply with the rule but the State Bar messed up.”
In other words, it’ll be the same laundry list of lame excuses that Weiss gave for not returning illegal campaign contributions, attending an illegal fundraiser co-hosted by a City Pensions Commissioner, and a host of other ethical issues that dogged Weiss in his failed bid to become City Attorney.
As usual, the Westside liberal democrat will get a pass on obeying rules as they only apply to mere mortals, not demagogue icons like Weiss. It’s rather like Obama complaining about divisiveness and a lack of bi-partisanship in DC, when that has been the Democrat’s mantra ever since George W. Bush ‘stole the election.’

@7:25. Good good question. $120,000 salaries + 103% for benefits and overhead ( this includes direct and indirect costs) x 18 positions adds up. Are there really 18
Deputy Mayors? Not very lean and mean.

The private sector is a good place for Mr Weiss. Remember, in the private sector, you have to produce!

On Bratton being a slimeball: When will the Police Commission or City Council demand a full audit of all LAPD spending during Bratton’s reign of terror. Seems two spot audits have already demonstrated corruption and bpassing city rules/laws on bids and rfp’s, etc. Are they all afraid of what will be found when we turn over a few rocks? Bratton’s figure prints are on all sorts of corrupt practices that the Police Commission and the Mayor want to ignore.

I don’t know what company you work for but I’d love to know
In the private sector, you just kiss your boss’s ass, get in good with that mafia called upper management, and pass the blame down to someone lower than you when shit hits the fan. And unlike the public sector, you don’t have to deal with ugly political crap like waking up and finding some guy has posted your name and salary online because he’s trying to back up a bogus argument
