Bruno, LA’s Watchdog: The Heartbreak of Falling Out of Puppy Love with Janice

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail imageThis dog once had what you people call “puppy love” for Janice Hahn.

When I was, indeed, just a pup, I’d hang out at the port with those tough longshoremen, who didn’t care that I wasn’t all that cute. They were pretty ugly, too.

Janice lives in San Pedro and represents it on the City Council. I’d see her around town.  She was always just soooo nice – very perky! — and so well groomed, something I couldn’t say for all the women down there.  Tattoos on women have been stylish in San Pedro since WWII.

Now, I’m heartbroken.  But because I’m not really housebroken, I’m going to come out and say it:  Janice Hahn may be the dumbest person to ever hold office in Los Angeles – and if you know your LA history, that’s pretty freaking scary.

Earlier this week, I got on her for trying to pull a fast one with her City Council/Lieutenant Governor’s campaign web sites.  Then I teased her for posing in a newspaper photo with former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who isn’t exactly the kind of guy you want endorsing you in a Democratic primary for statewide office.

But both of those are small kibble compared to the dumb-ass doozy detailed today in the Daily Breeze. Get a load of the first three paragraphs of Art Marroquin’s story:

“The president of a ship-building business donated at least $7,000 to Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who was expected this month to mediate a dispute between the company and the Port of Los Angeles.

“Hahn was set to step in as an impartial arbitrator amid the ongoing debate between port officials and Long Beach-based Gambol Industries, which has tried since last spring to open a $50 million shipyard on Terminal Island.

“Gambol’s president, Robert Stein, contributed $6,500 to Hahn’s lieutenant governor campaign account last October and another $500 to her City Council officeholder’s account last August, according to online state and city filing records.”

Yes, you read it right!  Janice took all this dough – and then figured nobody would blink if she decided the fate of this guy’s $50 million (!!!) project.  A call from a reporter inspired her to change her mind.

When this dog called her out publicly on the web site screw up, her staff politely explained it was just an innocent mistake: all this Internet stuff is just sooooo confusing.

I suppose ethics is way too confusing, too.  Gosh, there are just soooooo many rules. And the appearance of a conflict being as bad as conflict, well, forget it.  There are just soooooo many confusing words.

Woof!

This is tough call;Janice Hahn the dumbest member when there is such stiff competition from within this Council. Where would that leave Ed Reyes, who had a dope dealer write the City’s pot ordinance.

Does Councilmember Hahn live in San Pedro?
I think it was two years ago or so, I was reading some on-line columns, etc. and they mentioned that Ms. Hahn actually lived in a high-end community “near” the City of San Pedro and not actually in the City of Los Angeles. This was backed up quite a few times by other bloggers and they stated that it was common knowledge in the area.
Supposedly, she uses her Mother’s (Kenny’s Wife) home as her address of registration. Is this correct? Can anyone verify this information?
    Thank you.

    San Pedro adjacent?
Better chime in here before the Nuch hater’s point out his migrationa back and forth across the pond…
A beloved longtime legislator in Ventura County moved his family to be near him in Sacramento years ago, but kept his mother’s address to anchor him in his hometown Assembly and Senate districts. Ironically, when Tom McClintock ran for US Congress in California’s #4, the Dem’s up there STILL labeled him a carpetbagger.
In the grand scheme, Hahn’s keeping her maiden name, and address, is a bit less problematic then gross carpet bagging, though even if it is your old hood, keeping an empty rental WITHOUT family living in it doesn’t pass the sniff test.

The question of stupidity up for debtate. One must ask whether she thought it would slip under the radar or if doesn’t matter because it’s not what people know (as we have seen in the last couple of elections), it’s the ads money can buy.
The first would be stupid; the latter would sinister and aware. Either way, it’s shameful.
Isn’t she ahead in the polls?

The question of stupidity might be up for some debate. Was she hoping it would slip under the radar? Or, did she not care because she knows it’s the money one raises for ads that makes one a winner (as most past elections revealed).
The first would point towards stupidity. The latter towards being a very aware and sinister person. Either way, it’s shameful.
Isn’t she ahead in the polls?

Ethics rules might be filled with confusing rules like don’t bite the hands that feed you daily, like the tax payers, by taking a few bits of kibble from contributors for favors.
And ethics rules might be filled with confusing words like “DON’T!” and “NO!”, but even dumb ol’ dogs like Bruno and I learned them when we were pups.
    Your friend,
    G.

Poor Doggie just keeps getting disappointed by these city council losers. I hope when Janice Hahn has debates or speaks at community meetings someone has the guts to call her out on this BS. Can she really be this big of a bimbo? I agree Bruno its a toss up between who really is the biggest dumb ass on council. You have the Mexican Mafia thugs in suits who treat people like crap and have no professional decorum or intelligence, Reyes, Alarcon, Cardenas, Huizar. Then you have the gay guys who use their orientation as a argument to pass motions like Rosendahl, Koretz, Garcetti. Then you have the dumbest who shockingly come off as lame brains like Parks, Perry, Hahn, Wesson. Then you have the conservative morons who blow like the wind, Zine, Smith changing their mind when its popular and have so self respect for their own convictions. And in the end there’s only one who appears to be for the people and every week since in office has proven that. Paul Krekorian

  8. Port Insider says:

In no story was it mention the the Gambol lobbyist Gwen Butterfield has received over $200,000 in fees from Gambol since Hahn overturned the Board of Harbor Commissioner’s decision to pull the plug on the Gambol project. Hahn invoke charter section 245 and by super majority the project came back to life and illegally granted exclusive rights to Gambol to negotiate a lease…No RFP for the project, no competitive bids. No business plan. Port employees couldn’t believe it. This has never been done before.
It emails and a briefing memo Hahn was warned this could be illegal and she ignored it.
Oh the best part, Janice Hahn was the maid-of-honor at Gwen Butterfield’s wedding. Before Hahn came in office Butterfield was making $40,000 per year as a community organizers and part-time advocate. Since Hahn’s election Butterfield as grown to $500,000+ in billing to clients all that do business in Hahn’s district and donate to Hahn. Butterfiled as built her entire practice on her unholy friendship and ability to funnel money back to Hahn. Where is that story?
