Huizar vs. Martinez: Debate Round Two

By Tony Butka, NELA Lives!

Huizar was asked about “The List
that rated neighborhood leaders in CD14 by their level of support for
him, and gave his stock answer that “it was a long time ago” and they
really weren’t used. Martinez’ response was    if elected he would be transparent and there would be
no lists.”

“The matter of the CLARTS
Fund (a special CD14-only fund under the sole control of the Councilman
and generating somewhere in excess of $1 million dollars per year) was
raised. Huizar’s response was that his office is working to improve
transparency about expenditures, and that the monies from the fund all
went for the direct benefit of the residents of CD14. Martinez’
rejoinder was that if elected,  he will put the details of … every dollar spent so that the community will know
exactly what is being received and what is being spent.”

Huizar’s response to the balanced budget was to say that every year the
budget IS balanced ..  this response was a technical truth
surrounded by a whopper of a lie. Martinez’ response was to the effect that, if elected, he will make the
hard choices necessary to balance the budget with the help of community
input and transparency, and make honest budget cuts that are necessary.”

Planning Chief Michael LoGrande Faces Skepticism from  Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association

His credentials have been questioned, his new policies have been challenged in court, his intentions seen as pro-developer and anti-community, LA Planning Director spoke to the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association and faced tough questions.

What did he say? Watch Pete Vukovich’s videos.

Did School Shootings Show Middle-Class El Camino Real Got Special Treatment Compared to Bell, Gardena and South Gate”

S.M. Folso4 at 4LA Kids observes how officials and the media treat shootings of students at schools in Bell and Gardena and presence of a gun on a South Gate school differed sharply with the massive response that shooting outside El Camino Real in Woodland Hills.

LAUSD
has only one high school that doesn’t qualify as a “Title One School” – only one school where the
percentage of students on the Free-or-Reduced Lunch Program doesn’t qualify it
for additional funding to improve the achievement of at-risk children of low
socioeconomic means.

That
one high school – that island of middle-class affluence in a sea of economic
need – is El Camino Real in Woodland Hills.

If we deconstruct the events … it’s hard to miss the reaction from
the media and the powers-that-be to events in Woodland Hills compared to the
events in Gardena, Bell
and South Gate
Admittedly Gardena, Bell and South Gate are not parts of the City of Los
Angeles – but we also need to admit that we the population of Greater Los
Angeles is accustomed to gun play in those communities …and not used to it in
Woodland Hills.”

Instead of thanking all those community members who on their own time volunteer because they want to make things better Huizar the low life that he is has no class grades them instead. How insulting!!! Of course his supporters are downplaying it yet everyone is talking about those lists and saying only an arrogant asshole would do grade people and organizations for their own benefit. It will come out soon how much money Huizar gave the non profits who supported him and how he disrespects those who don’t even though they are still tax payers

Phew! Gibberish from the Planning Director who leads the second largest city. Should have recalled Villar when we had the chance. This Mayor is the root cause of most problems facing the city.

I love all the buzz words from the Planning Director–transparency, protecting neighbors, the importance of single family residences. The only problem is that he and his department act in direct opposite ways to what he claims they are doing. The funniest part was when he talked about his reputation for saying no to developers when the record shows exactly the opposite. He had the reputation of giving out variances like candy and now pretends that he stood up to developers. If you wish to be seen as transparent, you might want to consider actually being transparent.

Does not matter what Logrande says. He knows it, the developers know it and we know it. He is in that position thanks to the developers.
