As embattled Councilman Jose Huizar tries to savage challenger Rudy Martinez over a five-year-old incident, he was faced with dealing with a menacing email to staff by his campaign consultant Mike Trujillo.
The result is Trujillo was fired Sunday, a day before Huizar brings fire and police union officials to a press conference to demand that the Eagle Rock business and reality TV show host explain why he had possession of a dead LAPD officer’s badge, an incident that resulted in no charges.
Trujillo’s email invoked the Bible for authority, signed the email Chief Parker as if he had the legendary LAPD Chief on his side, described Martinez as “disgusting human being” and “will be sent back to the vile bag of tripe he emanated from” — apparently referring to Matinez’s mother who was fired by Huizar when her son decided to run.
Those remarks were mild compared to the threatening language Trujillo uses.
“We are going to unleash the dogs of satan on Rudy and he is going to wish he never heard the words “team huizar,” Trujillo wrote.
“I treated him like i was a cat playing with a trapped mouse, weli now he is going to be the dead rat he really is.”

Between now and next 36 hours – please check this e-mail thread regularly (yes even during the superbowl) We are about to put a political bullet in between Rudy Martinez’s forehead and make him pee in his pants too.
Once the LA Times breaks the story they are working on (even if they water it down, it won’t matter) I am going to need everyone to be prepared for a press conference Monday morning in front of the new LAPD HQ – next to the memorial wall off of 1st street.
Also once the Times story breaks – I am going to e-rnail you guys a confidential internal LAPD report on Rudy Martinez that I want you to send everywhere. I will NOT be using our official campaign list just yet (prefer to wait til tuesday) but over the weekend I want friends and enemies to have this information. (too bad we don’t have some sort of “Iist” that would make this so much easier)
Once you have it – get it to everyone – hell even email Rudy himself and send him the report – (just not this email telling you to send it to Rudy, hehe)
This is a game-changer.
Rudy will be exposed for lying to the LAPD, the LA Press and from here on out – everything he says will not be believed.

As a political consultant, it appears as though Jose Huizar’s campaign feels they are out of cheeks out of coats and at the end of their rope.
This is the same arrogant, ill prepared Michael Trujillo that helped defeat Measure B. He was one of the best assets the No on Measure B had.
According to the Times article, Trujillo is also managing the school board campaign of Richard Vladovic.
I assume Vladovic will read the article and have a chat with him.
Trujillo could set a record and be fired from two campaign posts in two days.
Trujillo also worked on Janice Hahn’s campaign for Lt Gov, specializing in revealing private conversations that occurred between her opponent and the opponent’s campaign adviser — not exactly what I would think of as ethical.
The “Chief Parker” sig goes back to the days when the Mayor Sam’s blog was anonymous, and used pseudonyms like Mayor Frank and Chief Parker. It was, in its day, a blog that was known for threatening and abusing its critics, while refusing to follow normal journalistic practice in attempting to confirm its allegations.
This email, if truly from Mike Trujillo, could be interpreted as a little braggadocio and chest pounding from those earlier days.
Vladovic, in his first campaign, did not distinguish himself as a nice guy. If he keeps MT on the staff, that is something that could be used against him.
What happened to the days when politicians ran campaigns emphasizing hard work, merit, and efficiency that focused on the issues.

Mike Trujillo I believe worked for Hillary Clinton presidential campaign for California trying to get the Latino vote. Didn’t he also work for Villaraigosa’s Mayoral campaign against Hahn? 11:38, I didn’t know LAPD loans out the badges of dead cops. And I’m supposed to believe that the same Martinez who refused to cooperate with the investigation into the stolen badge and was noted by investigators as having something to hide didn’t do anything wrong. Sounds like you’re a Martinez spinner.
I want to know how Mike Trujillo per the email got a hold of a Confidential LAPD Internal Report? Who leaked it to him?????? Emails are circulating with this story all over the city. People are asking why Trujillo hasn’t been arrested?
The reason Huizar has to handle his campaign like this is that there is really not much he can point to in terms of merit as a CM. He may have spend money to do some things that would have been done by any CM in their district. That’s a norm for a CM but I don’t see event that low bar being met by Huizar.
The really significant part of all that’s there but not being very well noticed is that the city is suffering from a style of politics that has been accomplished by a big segment of city government. Huizar is a part of the unanimous voting for things like the tripling of the trash fee at the Mayor’s urging. The parking meter rates instantly increased to 3x or more in some places and the hours are not past 6pm.
The DWP was allowed by the Mayor and CMs, including Huizar, to get raises in times when the private sector was laying off and raises were put off. DWP got 4 years of raises approved along with no fuloughs and then it took on city employees sent over by the Council’s approval- to get better pay, pensions, insurance and just about permanent job security.
It’s only a small part of what’s happened while Huizar joined in as a CM. It will not change from this CMs track record and political entaglements and obligations. His Villaraigosa influence runs through him to Monica Garcia and to her spin-off staffer running for the open LAUSD board position that Flores is vacating.
The big picture is that keeping Jose Huizar will do nothing for improving the city. It will perpetuate bad politics where politicians may not be totally fat cats, but working on it.
Unfortunately as an incumbent, lots of tax dollars are thrown into “public events” that really happen just to keep the face in front of the public- some free advertising done in as nany ways as an incumbent can think of doing with the money at hand.
And that’s how you see that politicians spend the most money of their terms during an election year. CD-14 and Jose Huizar are no exception, other than he has to do more work in the process of telling people that he did more work. Again, if he actually did, he’d have an easier time showing it and not have to resort to people like Trujillo and the rest to campaign as they do.
Agree with ‘In Eagle Rock’. What is the rationale for retaining ‘do-nothing’ decision makers in a time of increasing need for good governance, transparent processes, and smart revenue generation and resource allocation? Same -same with Eric Garcetti’s exploration of run for Mayor. What is to recommend anyone currently elected in the City of Los Angeles for retaining their present position or for moving up?
