This case illustrates the ongoing corrupting influence of corporate money and union money in our political election system. The U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions allowing unlimited financial donations to political campaigns is legalized bribery. It tears apart our democracy and strikes at the core of our system of electing representatives. Essentially, our representatives are bought and paid for by business and unions. Both spend lavishly on elected official’s political campaigns and then the elected official spends lavishly OUR TAXES to confer gifts of public money on the politically connected contributors. This, more than anything else, is why the State of California and the City of Los Angeles are broke.
