It’s crunch time, Election Weekend, and the mailboxes and TV are filled with political ads for Tuesday’s city election.
Thanks to the efforts and contributions of many, LA Clean Sweep has joined the party with a blitz of door hangers, mailers and cable TV ads in support of our slate of citizen candidates committed to fixing what they have broken.
Ziggy Kruse and Andre Campbell of Amending LA put this video together with KRLA talk show host Kevin James doing the voice over.
We’ve come a long way since last summer and no doubt have a long way to go to bringing a balance of power to city politics so whatever the outcome of Tuesday’s election, we will be gearing up to challenge City Hall’s follies day to day while recruiting and training candidates for 2013 when the mayor’s office and six City Council seats are open.
Unlike four years ago, every incumbent candidate is facing a challenge Tuesday and every vote will matter.
Rudy Martinez has a real chance to oust Jose Huizar in CD14 and Stephen Box, who has run a terrific campaign, can force Tom LaBonge into a runoff in CD4 with your help volunteering for precinct walking and phone banking over the weekend and getting your friends and neighbors to show up at the polls on Tuesday.
Even Mitch Englander, chief of staff and anointed successor to Greig Smith in CD12, is worried with his own poll showing him barely with a majority against Clean Sweep candidates Brad Smith and Kelly Lord and three other grassroots candidates.
Given the history of opponents of incumbents getting at least a third of the votes no matter who they are, there’s a chance for all the citizen candidates: Richard Goodman, David Barron and James Cordaro in CD6 against Tony Cardenas and Austin Dragon against Herb Wesson in CD10.
On the other side, Councilman Bernard Parks — the only Clean Sweep-backed incumbent — faces a tough challenge because of more than $600,000 being thrown at him by public employee unions because he, unlike his colleagues, has tried to be fiscally responsible.
Vote in records numbers on Tuesday and send City Hall a message.

So this the campaign? How about some specifics?
That was a great AD it says the truth. Huizar sent out another mailer claiming he is responsibile for the new police station. He had NOTHING to do with it and wasn’t even around back then. Its the only thing he can try and claim but the problem is everyone in CD14 knows he’s lying. Poor Parks should have looked at his mailers. Apparently LA Weekly has a story of how Parks mailer on people who are DEAD on it endorsing him. There’s a press conference on the dead people’s relatives opposing Parks. Englander is a little egomanic. I think the underdogs can do it. Chris Essel had millions and Krekorian whipped her good. Let’s DO IT AGAIN TUESDAY. Everyone work your computers and post post post.
Box is a phony. his promises are like any other politician offering to provide health care, save social security, and bring peace to the middle east.
Nobody is more phony and out of touch with reality than Labonge. Quoting lines from Hollywood movies as a response to serious questions shows a lack of perspective or recognition of the reality that LA has become under his and his Council cronies watch. The city cannot afford four more years of Labonge living in the make-believe world of Hollywood.

It sounds like LaBonge is caught off-guard and desperate with that remark. I guess you assume that Box is already in office.
Labonge was on Cruise Control being quite annoyed at the audacity of anyone challenging his Re-Anointment.

Now they deferred the 1601 N Vine, Cesspool, Vine-gate, Katersky until AFTER the election.
Wayne Katersky told it like it is today, he said why don’t you just vote on it now? Of course, they won’t touch that thing BEFORE the election.
If you vote the Cleen Sweep slate, we can cancel the 99.998% vote out and launch an investigation into the even-numbered seats.
the ad says it as it all. we love LA, they (the incumbents and other city “leaders”) broke it. it’s time to make a difference.
Box could be heard today on KPCC with Pat Morrison, and he was the only speaker who made sense. listen to it yourselves …

either LaBonge and O’Grady were having a hart time to concentrating, while Box was ready to answer from the heart. O’Grady had to be reminded about the “speaking from the heart” part when the question about “getting LA” came around.
LaBonge might have been born here in LA, but that does not always mean that’s a good thing. he sounds like he has lost his perspective of this great city … while Box and O’Grady are both “foreigners”, they seem to have a better grip on reality and what this awesome city could be like again.
so, go out there and make a difference. in the end it does not matter who you vote for, as long as it is not the incumbents.
Box already has our votes!!

I hope that video is not the commercial running on TV. That was just a summary of the problems. I think there was a passing mention of when the elections are. Don’t think your average viewer will know what to do based on the information. It’s like running an infomercial but not putting the phone number on the screen.
