A Grassroots Call for Honest City Council Districts

Editor’s Note: Is it any wonder that residents of Lake View Terrace, Sunland-Tujunga and other areas of the far Northeast San Fernando Valley are up in arms over the draft redistricting maps? Would you want to be represented by Richard Alarcon, the indicted felon who has been able to put off his trial indefinitely because of a gutless District Attorney, a career politician already is running to get back into the state Legislature and has used his clout to get his daughter a six-figure job on the Public Works Commission doling out massive construction contracts as a prelude to running for the City Council herself? Some residents of those communities are fighting mad and ready to do something about.

My fellow Lake View Terrace residents,

The “new” draft redistricting map put most of LVT and Sunland-Tujunga in CD7
with Richard Alarcon  as our councilman.

Shadow Hills, La Tuna Cyn and LVT south of Foothill has been moved to CD 6 -
Tony Cardenas’s district.  We voted for Wendy Greuel over Tony Cardenas in
CD 2 eight years ago!

WE ARE CD 2. There is strength in numbers. Sunland-Tujunga isn’t going to take
this quietly. Neither will we!

See you Saturday at noon at 7747 Foothill Blvd in Sunland for this major
community meeting. See the attached flyer for more information and maps.

If you
care about what the next ten years will bring to our community, you need to be
at this meeting.

Bring your neighbors.

Sincerely,

Kristin Sabo – Lake View Terrace!

Dear Neighbors,

Our city council district
has been proposed to be split apart in a very disruptive way.

The proposed boundary is
now the 210 fwy splitting us off from the equine community
we have in common like Shadow Hills, La Tuna Canyon and sending us instead with

communities in the San Fernando Valley whom we have nothing in common.

Here is the new council
district proposed for us which puts us in Council District 7 under
Richard Alarcon. Part of Lake View Terrace
, Shadow
Hills, La Tuna Canyon and Sun

 Valley, which includes
the Stonehurst Area gets put into CD6 presently represented by

Tony Cardenas. This effectively disengages our rural communities who work
together to
protect our rural environment, water shed, quality of life
, equine importance and also
puts us in districts whose representatives were not elected by us.

We are meeting Saturday
at noon at 7747 Foothill Blvd to outline how we are going to
get this mess cleaned up! We are CD2! The redistricting process has rules that
should
protect us from this kind of ripping up of the district, the same rules that
protect us from
being thrown out of our element, we need to do what we do best, UNITE and stand
up
and FIGHT!

The only way these communities can bring about change is to show up and get in the face of the Redistricting Commission. Rest assured that your Councilmember, or his or her staff, will be at those meetings to hear you. When you spot him or her. Surround them and demand that communities of interest be kept together to the maximum extent possible within the limits of evenly populated districts and the federal voting laws.

And while you’re at it getting in the faces of these people who want to steamroller you into districts you abhor being in, start bombarding the Daily News to give up redistricting themselves into the South Bay, which is most apparent on the opinion pages.
The Daily News is supposed to be a Valley paper. They just celebrated their 100th anniversary as representing the BEST the Valley has to offer, and within days of the hype they forgot all about their commitment to the Valley and joined forces with “those” southerners, with whom we have nothing in common.
It’s always been hard to get a letter to the editor in print. Try it now! Since Dec.22, if valley voices get in 2 or 3 letters out of 8 or nine, we’re lucky. On 12/26 there were ZERO out of 9. On 1/23 there was a long letter by a Long Beach councilman. Like we really care what one of their councilman has to say about anything. He and his city have nothing to do with us and our problems with our own councilmembers and mayor.
Without letters from you — the citizens of the Valley — your voices and your problems will never be fully heard.

Why is redistricting map submitted to Commission by Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association (SOHA) not available for public review? Why the secrecy?
    Transparency in the process? Insider-influence?
The Commission bus tour of “disputed areas” on January 14, 2012 and luncheon at La Costa Azul in Pacoima must have been very productive.
Urgent message to Commissioners Helen Kim and David Roberti: criminals on the Redistricting Commission corrupting the Process.

As Wesson’s aide realigns Council Districts to please his ex-boss, Wesson bitch-slaps Parks and Perry in the Committee Assignments. Check out the LA Times article.
Perry in charge of Neighborhood Councils? Next thing you know, she will be in charge of auditing the bank accounts of the NCs, and taking out the trash.

We were shafted when James Hahn (bad Mayor)
disenfranchised all of us in the San fernando
Valley when he went to Sacramento and got the Legislature to rule that the entire city of LA
should vote on the issue of secession.
That is why we still are afflicted by these
    problems.

Where is Councilman Krekorian as his district gets ripped apart? He’s sending out press releases trumpeting his appointment as head of the budget committee! He must come out fighting against this map and he must do it soon!

  8. Paul says:

KROOKORIAN IS BUSY FIXING HIS CLAWS ON THE CITY ATTORNEY OFFICE HE’LL WIN WHEN TRUTANICH FINISHES HIS MISTAKE OF RUNNING FOR DA.
Oh, did you know today your DWP Sewer Service Charges just went up 58% over 10 years? You didin’t? Oh, no biggie!
