It’ll be hell to pay when the bills come due — My Sunday Column

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been through a lot in my life and I’ve never seen anything like this — and it isn’t at all like seeing an elephant fly.

Our elected officials must think we are all “Dumbos” and will somehow go along with higher taxes, even though the basic problem is not being fixed: government costs too much and delivers too little.

Personally, I would be happy to pay more in taxes, but I have to ask the same questions of Gov. Jerry Brown and the state Legislature that I would ask a friend who got into financial trouble during this dark and dreary recession because he was living beyond his means for a long time.

Is your house in order? If I give you money, will it get you back into a sound financial footing, or are you just hoping to buy a little time — and some lottery tickets — to straighten things out?

For four years now, we have seen that the state, the city of Los Angeles and many others cities and counties have cooked the books, juggled funds, borrowed heavily, deferred costs and taken minimal steps to be able to fool voters, and themselves, into believing the lie that their budgets are balanced.

Even cities like Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena — which are more affluent and far better managed than most — face reducing services to the public, and raising rates and fees wherever they can, to stave off the toughest decisions in hopes the economic recovery will save them from dealing with the reality of a “new normal” of slow, or even no, growth.

As far as I am concerned, it is already hell to pay time and there
are far too many public employees making far more than employed
private workers. Retirees from private industry do not make the
pensions they have voted themelves. It is not only HTP, it highway
    robbery.

When it is over it is over, and it is definitely time for a change.

  2. MissAnthrope says:

Unfortunately, most voters are “as dumb as they (the politicians) think they are.”

All they have to say is “it’s for the children” or “you’ll be raped and pillaged in your beds” if you don’t give us more money.

It’s no more than getting votes by means of dire threats (political extortion), and most voters don’t take the time or don’t have the inclination to study these things for themselves.

All we can hope for is that the people in this sleepy pueblo will wake up to how their money is being wasted and that the vote NO people have more and better ads than the vote YES liars and fear-mongers.

1/ If Ron is “happy” to pay more taxes—NOTHING IS STOPPING YOU MITT RON-MEE!!!! On your State California taxform (form 540–the form the overtaxed and abused use to pay with) has a box area WHERE THEY BEG YOU MR. RON-MEE
TO DONATE MORE $$$ TO SAVE CALIFORNIA. So just put your bucks in those boxes and you’ll BE HAPPY TO PAY MORE MORON! I donate each year to a fund to feed homeless vets and house abused seniors—because these two groups no one gives a God damn about and someone should start.
2/ As for the offer to give someone your $$$–GIVE IT ME RON, I’LL PROMISE TO USE EVERY PENNY TO MOVE TO VENTURA COUNTY AND TO HELL OUT OF HERE—YOU’LL NEVER FIND A BETTER USE OF FUNDS TO “DONATE” TO.
Want to see a SCANDAL at work? Something so FRIGHTENING THAT IT COULD IMPERIL ALL OF L.A. CITY AND COUNTY? Go to: themls.com and click “buy a home” and in the area box type in “sunset-hollywood hills west” and be sure to limit your search to SINGLE FAMILY HOMES–ACTIVE ONLY.
What do you see? How about every mulimillionare in the area HAVING THEIR HOMES UP FOR SALE!!!! How about 2 HUNDRED HOMES FOR SALE AT THE SAME TIME IN THE SAME AREA FOR OVER A MILLION BUCKS UP TO 15 MILLION BUCKS A CASA?
There IS an election taking place right now Mr. Ron-MEE—its the one WHERE EACH PERSON VOTES WITH A LEFT AND RIGHT FOOT—BECAUSE THEY’RE VOTING TO PACK UP AND GET THE HELL OUT OF L.A!
Last one out of L.A. IS A ROTTEN EGG!!

  4. Teddy says:

It is time to clean up city hall. Do not vote for encumbents seeking new
positions, they have not earned our trust and respect.

We need new people who wish to serve for a term in order to change the
    status quo.

    • ex valley says:

Finally you people woke up about getting the new blood on the positions of power. But why stop at the city level? How about the congress critters ? Are you going to reward Berman/Sherman with another term? Haven’t they been in DC LONG ENOUGH??? What have they done for the valley???

  5. 909 code says:

    Amen, Amen Amen.

    1. All my adult life, Brown for Governor, Daddy then son and a few Hollywood actors.
    2. Whose your Daddy? Corruption likes familarity. In 909 you know who ought to get all paving contracts, you get to make $175,000 in the 909! Your Daddy rich or an elected. Pick your office, Dutton, Hansberger, Baca….
    3. You spend 30 percent of City of San Bernardino property taxes on RDA failure, hire your kid at no salary as Chief of Staff, in other words– Mayor in waiting.
    4. You think elephants fly, consider San Bernardino International Airport.
    5. People gave up voting in San Berdoo, but somehow a bright honest young man just got elected to Third Ward. A bright Latino.
    6. Yep, no more tax schemes to consider on the ballot, just say no.
    7. Pension Reform, hmm, how do you roll back $300k pensions in the 909?

Keep writing Ron, it makes a sound in the forest.
